Early Childhood/ Elementary Student Teaching Supervisor

Penn State Brandywine invites applicants for the position of Instructor and Early Childhood/Elementary Student Teaching Supervisor (full-time, fixed-term) to begin August 2013.  This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from the date of hire with an excellent possibility of re-funding. Full University benefits apply.

Responsibilities: During the fall semester, teach Early Childhood/Elementary courses, supervise Student Teachers in one-day per week field placements and guide weekly seminars. During the spring semester, supervise those same Student Teachers in five-day per week field placements along with weekly seminars. Other duties include: liaison between the hosting school district and the University throughout the year; arrange student teacher placements for the subsequent academic year; participate in course development and curriculum development; advise students; provide career guidance, PA state teacher certification processing, and job placement recommendation forms/letters; and participate in department, campus, university and community service activities. Each semester includes a 12 credit hour load. A commitment to scholarship through active involvement in research with undergraduates is preferred.

Qualifications: Doctorate degree (or near completion) in Elementary or Early Childhood Education or related field; public/private Elementary/ Early Childhood teaching experience; experience with professional development and/or college teaching of adult / college-age learners. Record of previous or current Elementary or Early Childhood Teacher Certification and experience supervising Student Teachers is preferred. Candidate should have an understanding of active and collaborative learning including the instructional use of technology. Knowledge of the unique needs of college students at a commuter campus is an advantage.

Psychology Instructor

Penn State Brandywine invites applications for a faculty position, Psychology Instructor (Fixed Term I, 36 weeks) to begin August 2013.  This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from the date of hire with an excellent possibility of re-funding.  Full University benefits apply.

Starting Date:  August 2013, or as negotiated.

Responsibilities: Teach four courses (12 credits) a semester in the baccalaureate degree program in psychology at both the lower and upper division levels using traditional, hybrid and online delivery methods. Teaching assignments may require teaching day, evening and/or Saturday classes as needed. Participate in campus, university, and community service activities.

Qualifications: Ph.D. in Psychology or related area required. The area of specialization is open, but preference for applicants with experience teaching Research Methods, including qualitative research. Applicants should also have experience teaching learning theory, industrial/ organizational, or developmental, with an applied or clinical focus. Commitment to high-quality instruction in a student-centered environment is expected. Interest in active and collaborative learning, the instructional use of technology, and hybrid and online teaching is an advantage. Prior college-level and online teaching experience preferred. Enthusiasm for working in a multidisciplinary environment is important.
